Simply stay with the small and in the small, because the grand reveals itself when we pay attention. And the journey of understanding gently unfolds throughout our lives.

    In the void that remember

“O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become mindful (taqwā).” (Quran 2:183) In Mirleft, during Ramadan, time does not flow. It breathes. This is not a metaphor; it is a real, almost physical perception. There is a different rhythm—a quality of time…

  • Why Sarangi

    Why Sarangi

The name Sarangi, which I adopted for my yogic project and ultimately for this website, was given to me by Swami Atma in Rishikesh, India. Swami Atma was one of my meditation teachers, one of the serious ones who wouldn’t want to be called a master. The story goes like this. We were chatting, sitting…

When I live in contact with Nature, in a more natural dimension of life, my gaze immediately becomes sharper and more sensitive to the small, the delicate, the essential. The myth of the hero, of greatness, of extraordinariness, of visibility, crumbles, making way for the simple, delicate power of the real. The ordinary reveals its…

  • The perfect moment to meet you

The perfect moment to meet you

I’m heading out, intending to take a walk in the woods today without a set destination. When I’m here in Lakazeza, weather permitting, a walk in the woods is a daily ritual. I anticipate it with the eager trembling of a child unwrapping a present. The metaphor fits perfectly because every day the path—often imaginary,…

    Falafel

Falafel In the woods, the war is silent footsteps, birds and shadows follow the trail, and the dead fly low with unfurled sleeves, invisible and present, nocturnal animals of a spring that tries its best to be discreet. No war is distant.[…]From the poetry collection “Pane del bosco” by C. L. Candiani No war is…

The Bardo Thodol – The Art of Beautiful Dying and Fearless Living

The Bardo Thodol (Tibetan: bar do thos grol chen mo, literally “The Great Liberation by Hearing in the Intermediate State”) corresponds to a section of a broader Tibetan Buddhist text titled Zab chos zhi khro dgongs pa rang grol (literally, “The Profound Dharma of Self-Liberation through the Mind of the Peaceful and Wrathful Deities”). It…

Wonder lies in the gaze. In humble, curious exploration that doesn’t impose itself on reality, that demands nothing from the experience. Then, with the distorting lenses of expectation, judgment, and habit laid aside, what’s around us offers itself, revealing its extra-ordinariness to us. And it’s a perpetual falling in love.
The path we walk begins to speak to us, to evoke, to resonate with emotion: a stone, a glimpse, a taste, a look, a simple occurrence become stories, symbols. The etymology of the word “symbol” itself refers to the meaning of “to put together,” “to unite.” To feel that everything is a symbol means discovering that every thing, event, place, gesture, or encounter is a manifest image that points to something invisible, something we don’t yet know about ourselves and existence. And then our gaze, our sensing, become a bridge between the manifest and the unmanifest. The visible and the invisible. What a marvelous journey! But happiness asks for sharing, and so here, condensed into short writings, are some moments from my travels, some photographs of intense wonder. Nuances.
